University Players Opens 60th Anniversary Season with a Bold New Look

The 60th Anniversary Season promises to be a thrilling and dramatic look at the theme of love and war, accompanied by special events throughout the school year.

A new season of plays is about to begin at University Players, and with it comes a refreshing and bold new look for the 60-year old theatre company with a new logo and a bold palette of posters for the 6 shows of the season. The 60th Anniversary Season promises to be a thrilling and dramatic look at the theme of love and war, accompanied by special events throughout the school year.

“We look forward to captivating our audiences with this year’s selection of classic and contemporary works,” says School of Dramatic Art Director Tina Pugliese. “Theatre can be a life-changing experience by its power to make us think, feel, and wonder about all sorts of possibilities; this season is filled with a variety of themes that are sure to entertain and inspire. So, join us as we launch our first show of the season, Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play, an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.”  A Streetcar Named Desire makes its much anticipated University Players’ debut; and we mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of WWI with the poignant historical drama, A Journey’s End.

“Come back for the second half of the season for Margaret Atwood’s feminist retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Penelope and Odysseus in The Penelopiad – a narrative told through the voices of Penelope and her twelve maids.  Next, politeness turns to disorder and incivility, when two sets of parents come together in God of Carnage and help us to appreciate the chaos and absurdity of parenthood.  We close the season with Love and Information, a provocative modern drama/comedy that challenges audiences’ appreciation for the multiple meanings of Love.”
